Three Vet Surgeries Your Dog May Need From A Local Pet Clinic

by Linda Sullivan

No dog owner wants their furry baby to fall sick. If their illness requires medical intervention via vet surgery, it could put you into a panic. Fortunately, not all surgeries pose a tremendous threat to your pet's life. In some cases, the surgery that your pet needs could be a routine procedure that is typically carried out at your local vet! To help you deal with the prospect of your pet requiring vet surgery, here three routine procedures that your dog may need from your local pet clinic:

Hip dysplasia vet surgery

This type of illness is particularly common in dogs when compared to other pets. It is a degenerative disease that affects the joints in your dog's body. When left unchecked, it causes stiffness in your dog's limbs coupled with chronic pain. When your dog has developed hip dysplasia, you will notice that they tend to hop or limp when they are walking or running. If left unchecked, your dog could be at risk of arthritis or, worse yet, could become crippled.  Fortunately, vet surgery will provide immediate relief for your furry baby and prevent the disorder from worsening.

Neutering/Spaying vet surgery

Having your dog either neutered or spayed is undoubtedly one of the most common procedures that vet clinics carry out. It is considered a minor surgery, since it is completed in a short amount of time and your dog does not have to spend the night at the clinic. In addition to this, spaying or neutering is also a step toward better health for your dog, since it goes a long way in preventing the onset of an array of diseases that could threaten your pet's life. For males, the neutering helps minimise the risk of prostate cancer, whereas in females it limits the risk of breast cancer, uterine infections and so on.

Internal vet surgery

One of the first things that you will learn about your pet the moment that you get them is that they are curious about their environment. This curiosity, as it happens, is what will make your dog inclined to eat anything they come across irrespective of whether it is food or not! With that in mind, it is not uncommon to find that your dog has swallowed a foreign object. When this happens, internal vet surgery is critical to ensure that the foreign body doesn't obstruct any of their organs. Moreover, if your dog is wheezing or having trouble swallowing, you should rush them to a pet clinic immediately for emergency surgery.
